Mount Hope's Baptist Temple (1927) could seemingly hold the city's entire population. The large church is fronted by a giant-order, four-columned Ionic portico, approached by a high flight of steps. The facade of the nearby Presbyterian Church (1927), similar in massing and materials to the Baptist Temple, has a curved Tuscan portico. Both churches have large Sunday school wings and date from the period when Mt. Hope boasted the largest church and Sunday school attendance in Fayette County.
