Romanesque in detail but mostly no-nonsense in overall design and feeling, this large church stands on an impressive hilltop at the western entrance to uptown. The church is faced with orange tapestry brick and covered with a bright orange tile roof. A corner tower with louvered arches in its top stage dominates the structure, while an arcaded portico, approached by stairs on either side, centers the facade. A notice in Manufacturers Record estimated the cost at $150,000, gave dimensions of 140 by 90 feet, noted that the sanctuary would seat 1,800 worshipers, and identified the architects as a St. Louis firm.
