Aetnaville Bridge

-A A +A
1891. Georgia St. West of the intersection with N. Erie St. (the ramp begins at N. Huron and Georgia sts.)
  • (West Virginia Collection within the Carol M. Highsmith Archive, Library of Congress, Prints and Photographs Division)

This four-span, steel-truss bridge is supported on massive sandstone piers. It was closed to automotive traffic in 1988 but still serves pedestrians crossing the Ohio River's back channel. A modicum of iron filigree decorates each end of the bridge, which is painted light blue. Unfortunately, a fine splattering of graffiti has been added over the years.
