A slight angular jog in the street pattern, where Court Street becomes Riverview, caused a similar angle in this building, which was constructed close to the lot lines. The house has stone foundations, sills, and lintels, but the walls are made of brick laid in common bond. Above a corbeled brick cornice, the roof is variously hipped and gabled. The building originally served both as a general store and a house. Its moment of fame came in 1848, when the act creating Wirt County directed the first meeting of the newly appointed justices to convene here. It now serves as a museum of area history.
