Conifer (1865, 8,270 feet), originally known as Bradford Junction, was a stage stop on the Denver and South Park Toll Road. It evolved into a town renamed for the surrounding evergreen forest, now diminished by residential development and a huge shopping center. Old Bradford Junction is commemorated by a hexagonal, stone-walled, cupola-topped well (1861) at the junction of Barkley Road and Colorado 73 next to an old elliptical-roof frame barn. Another antique, Medlen School (1886), 2 miles south of U.S. 285 on South Turkey Creek Road, with hewn logs under clapboards, is a one-room school being restored by the Jefferson County Historical Society.
