Buildings in this part of Alexandria date largely from the 1920s through the 1990s. Much of the recent development has been directed by the City of Alexandria Department of Planning and Zoning, which has attempted to maintain the density and architectural quality common to the adjacent Old Town area. To a significant degree the effort has succeeded.
