Itmann, the Pocahontas Fuel Company's town, was named for its president, I. T. Mann. In 1916 the company leased more than a thousand acres of coal land and built Itmann in 1918–1919. It remains among the best preserved communities in the region, and the 1989 Coal Road Study recommended that it be restored as a cultural heritage and tourist center, illustrating the life and times of a typical coal company town. So far little action has been taken on this recommendation.
