Job and Erskine McClellan constructed this two-story house with vertical sawn boards. Flattened tin cans have been applied over the butt joints. A very early vernacular dwelling, this has homemade Carpenter's Gothic detail with wood quoins, lintels, frieze, and ornamental shingles. McClellan's Opera House (1869, burned 1892), next to the Hotel de Paris on 6th Street, was reputedly Colorado's first.
