San Pedro y San Pablo Catholic Church

The adjoining towns of San Pedro and San Pablo (1851, 8,100 feet) share this tall adobe church with a concrete foundation and gable roofs that cross over the transept. Its eastern orientation, cruciform plan, and adobe construction continue the tradition of two former churches on this site. Gothic influence shows in the pitched roof, vaulted ceiling, rose window, and pointed windows. The altar and plaster statues inside replace original hand-carved santos. Although the windows have been enlarged, the choir loft and bell tower rebuilt, and acoustical tile added to the cross-ribbed ceiling, the church remains picturesquely vernacular.
