Mullen Nurses Home

-A A +A
1920s, Temple Hoyne Buell. 1895 Franklin St. (at E. 19th Ave.)

Jagged parapets of red brick provide an organic, ivy-like edge to this four-story, beige brick residence for student nurses. The Art Deco relief ornament continues in the entry surround and provides striking vertical accents on the flat walls. Raised plaster designs on walls and ceilings and strong geometric patterns in floors make the interior as exotic as the exterior. Numerous additions to the mother hospital, St. Joseph's, have obscured some views of this marvel.
