Elbert County Courthouse

-A A +A
1912, John J. Huddart. 751 Ute Ave., at Comanche St. (Colorado 86) and Pawnee St.
  • Elbert County Courthouse (Richard W. Longstreth)

This two-story Renaissance Revival brick structure built on a conventional rectangular floor plan has a hipped roof and plain cornice. Parts of the interior retain the original wood-work and details. The Hungate-Dietmann Memorial Marker (1939, Pioneer Women of Colorado), on the courthouse lawn, commemorates the slaughter of the Hungate (1864) and Dietmann (1868) families by Arapaho Indians.
