This Chateau Style castle has rough red sandstone walls with white rhyolite trim accenting corner towers, dormers, and parapets. A wing (1917) and a sanatarium (1932, D. Y. Murphy and Bros.) are among various additions. The tower clock is stopped at eight o'clock, commemorating the union victory of an eight-hour work day. Set amid expansive landscaped grounds, this edifice embodies the dream of comfortable, dignified retirement for union members.
