As the silver mining era faded in Silver Cliff (Custer County), the original site of this three-story brick hotel, the building was dismantled and hauled into Cañon City to reopen as the Hotel St. Cloud. Notable guests have included Buffalo Bill Cody, Calamity Jane, and western movie idol Tom Mix, who briefly made Cañon City a mini-Hollywood. The mansard roof is pierced by dormer windows and a central pavilion that divides the building's facade into three bays. Rough-cut stone marks the corners and the window tops above the first floor. The hotel also boasted the town's first elevator and elegant interior details, such as the pressed metal ceiling in the Silver Lining Saloon.
