Cañon City Public Library

-A A +A
1902, C. C. Rittenhouse. 516 Macon St.

Red sandstone sandwiches beige-colored stone on the walls of Cañon City's Carnegie library. Pilasters further define the symmetrical facade and highlight the transomed bays. Stone dentils and scalloped wood-work highlight the bracketed eaves of this one-story edifice with a low hipped roof broken by a gable that accents the central entrance. More homey, romantic touches are provided by the two rustic chimneys and the cozy fireplaces and golden oak wood-work of a little-altered interior. A modern two-story addition is fortunately hidden behind the original.
