This somber, gray facade of rough-cut ashlar sandstone belies an exciting past. The two-story corner commercial structure was once a saloon, with gambling in the basement and a bordello upstairs. It also served as a hay and grain barn, a draft office during World War I, and an Eagles Lodge Hall. Today the Pioneer Museum exhibits historic mining and oil drilling equipment, radios, clothing, and firearms. Florence's original jail (c. 1875), relocated behind the museum, is constructed of 2-by-6-inch wood slabs criss-crossed at the corners and has 6-by-6-inch barred windows.
