CF&I, which owned and operated many of the area's coal mines, built and operated this stuccoed masonry store with its distinctive curvilinear parapet. When CF&I closed the Big Mine in 1952, it also closed this store, since reopened as a mini–shopping mall. In the rear alley is the famous two-story outhouse—supposedly a response to the snowdrifts that persist in shady places until May.
