City Hall

-A A +A
1909, John Conkie. 135 N. Animas St. (opposite W. Church St.)

Square corner towers dominate this three-story hall of rough-faced stone with the entry recessed behind two-story black granite Ionic columns. This unusual design honors a local tradition of building in rough-faced Trinidad sandstone, although such Neoclassical compositions usually call for smooth, polished stone. Rough-faced stone also serves as base and trim on this building, with a roof-top balustrade to emphasize its fierce symmetry.
