This project of the Otero Museum Association brings together many elements of the area's past, including transportation artifacts and two historic buildings, in a complex set in a working-class residential neighborhood. Nancy Wickham moved her tiny Wickham Boarding House for railway workers from the former end-of-track town of Granada in 1875 to La Junta. The one-story house, now moved to the museum site, has vertical board-and-batten siding, a side-gable roof, and a full-width front porch. The Sciumbato Grocery (1908), 706 2nd Street (NR), is a frame false-fronted structure with typical display windows. Now restored as the principal structures of the Otero Museum, the house and store display some original furnishings, an extensive railroad memorabilia collection, and furnishings of a vintage doctor's office.
