In pursuit of a regional style for the design of this hotel, Harry Teague used backwoods elements such as wooden poles, cheap siding, and bent twig furniture, which he helped select, cut, and install. He also had a hand in the masonry work on the fireplace in the 28-foot-high lobby. To blend his raw creation into the surrounding neighborhood of Victorian houses, he scaled and segmented the front facade with sunken terraces, stairways, porches, gables, and corner towers. Teague's composition combines high-tech, rustic, and Victorian elements with sophistication and wit.
