Anderson Ranch Arts Center

This ranch, named for its original owner, William Anderson, has been converted to a nonprofit educational foundation that teaches ceramics, painting, photography, printmaking, wood-working, and furniture design. An assortment of dilapi-dated log houses and barns, shoved aside by the developers of Snowmass Village, have taken refuge at the ranch. Since 1980, Aspen architect Harry Teague has restored and remodeled old structures and added new ones. “Unassertiveness and artistic messiness have been retained,” Architectural Record put it in April 1989. Bark-sheathed porch columns, brightly painted windows, shake shingle, and metal roofs help to visually unite this offbeat campus.
