WPA craftsmen shaped local sandstone for the exterior walls and trim of this Streamline Moderne school building. Alternating light and dark sandstone is used to subtly shape openings, stringcourses, and parapeted bays. This simple structure has aged beautifully, as has the Junior High School (1924, Robert K. Fuller), 555 Garfield Avenue, with its hammered, rough-faced sandstone walls rising to a slight parapet.
