Monte Villa Inn (El Monte Hotel)
After helping his father design the Hotel Boulderado ( BL08) in Boulder, E. Floyd Redding, a Denver architect, chose a Spanish Colonial Revival style for this three-story edifice. The H plan is set in a concrete foundation with brick walls covered in stucco under a flat roof. Vigas, a curvilinear parapet, and tiled pent roofs at the top of the third story reinforce the Southwestern theme, as does the main entry marquee of projecting log ends supported by decorative scroll ironwork.
A 1973 single-story concrete addition contains a new lobby. The old main entrance vestibule, hall, former lobby, office, and women's bridge room have been transformed into the main dining room, making use of the original textured walls and rich, dark wood-work. Simple columns rise to a coffered ceiling with a central stained glass skylight. The mezzanine, wrought iron staircase, and Otis elevator also remain.
