Set among a grove of trees, this picturesque country church, with its lava-rock walls, rose window, and upward-sweeping curved gabled facade, is a beautifully concise Arts and Crafts embodiment of the sacred in Hawaii. Its intimate interior features scissors trusses and a carved oak altar. In addition to the deep red and blue rose window, ten stained glass windows, made in England, line the walls of the sanctuary and depict the chief events in the life of Jesus. Although this charming chapel was not part of the plantation's stone construction program, the stone, a more porous basalt than that used for the secular structures, was donated by the Kilauea Sugar Plantation, as was the land upon which the church stands.
