Charles Bolton, an architect from Philadelphia, designed a number of churches in the East and Midwest. In the case of the Cedar Rapids church he utilized late English Gothic themes in designing this auditorium building. At the street corner he created three angled gables, each with a large pointed window. A tower with a pinnacle stands mid-way between the auditorium and the Sunday school wing. All of the Gothic details have been reduced to simple basic shapes, and the ornament tends to be sharp and angular.
