Tester House

-A A +A
1931, Tinsley, McBroom and Higgins. 228 Woolf Ave.

The illusion of age created in the design of period revival houses of the 1920s and 1930s fascinated both architects and clients during these years. Here in a classic English Colonial Revival house, the building and its detailing have been rendered in brick, the brick has then been painted, and finally parts of the paint have been weathered off. Unusual details of this two-story house are the use of brick around the entrance, the quoining at the corners, the large stair window above the entrance, and the round windows in the gable ends.
