Hogback Covered Bridge

1884, H. P. Jones, builder. Proceed north from Winterset on Hwy. 169 for 1.5 miles, west on gravel road 1.4 miles, north on gravel road 1.2 miles to bridge over North River.

Another H. P. Jones flat-roofed design utilizing the Towne truss, this was the last of the remaining bridges to be built.

In addition to bridges, while one is touring around the county one should take note of the many stone farmhouses and barns. A good concentration of these buildings can be found on route G50 as it proceeds east from Winterset to the small town of Saint Charles. Almost all of these structures date from the late 1850s through the 1860s.
