What immediately catches one's eye in this stone church is the corner tower. It stands out as a cylinder for the first two floors and then suddenly becomes an elongated rectangle surmounted by a high-pitched gable roof. While towers of this type are found in England, their source is French and Flemish. In 1973 the church was almost completely destroyed by fire. It was rebuilt following the original design with a few changes; the north side dormer was eliminated, and buttresses were introduced on the side walls to stabilize the older walls.
