Francis de Sales Church (demolished)

-A A +A
demolished
1898. Northeast corner N. 4th and High streets

Across the street from the earlier Roman Catholic Church stood this later, more correct version of the French Gothic style. The building's gabled facade with central rose window was quite flat. A tower with a spire projected slightly from the building. The side aisles were lighted by pointed windows placed within gabled wall dormers, and each dormer was enclosed by its own pair of buttresses. The rusticated limestone walls contrasted with the finely cut surface trim. Both the stone decoration and the windows were kept close to the surrounding surface plane.
