University Chapel

The chapel building is appropriately Gothic, in this case what would loosely but aptly be labeled Ruskinian Gothic. The red brick walls are set high on a raised stone foundation. Light stone trim appears in a highly contrasting fashion throughout the building. An impressive play is enacted in each of the facades between tight balance and symmetry, and elements that seem purely random, accidental, and, of course, picturesque. According to the college records, the plans for the building were drawn by a “Mr. Snider of Akron, Ohio.”
