Saint Mathias is a dollhouse-sized (20 feet by 30 feet) Greek Revival church. The angled pitch of the pediment is repeated in the gables of the small triangular window. Below this is a handsome entry with wide entablature and cornice supported by a pair of pilasters. The building was constructed at Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, and then shipped to Muscatine by raft on the Mississippi River. Its original site was on the northwest corner of Second and Cedar streets. It was moved to its present site and restored in 1934.
