The PWA Moderne style is here only a bland version of modernized classicism. There is a classical entrance, a kind of frontispiece, which projects slightly in front of the brick facade. In a fashion characteristic of vertical skyscrapers of the twenties and thirties, the windows and their spandrels are slightly recessed to create a patterned vertical effect. The Decorah architect Charles Altfillisch was a graduate of the University of Iowa and the Carnegie Institute of Technology. He designed a number of public buildings in Iowa.
