Generally when the Queen Anne was carried out in brick it tended to be subdued. Any exuberance, such as one experiences in the Rich house, comes out in the wood detailing of the porches, balconies, and gable ends. An unusual feature of the Rich house is its square entrance tower; its roof, with its round window dormers, is French Second Empire in style. On the exterior the house remains as built, except for the removal or lowering of a number of the chimneys.
