The typical East Cambridge house of the early nineteenth century stood on a narrow lot with a side hall entrance plan. James Green, pastor of the Third Congregational Church (see EC15) and the first mayor of Cambridge, erected this house for his residence. The facade facing the street is brick, but the side elevations are wood with clapboards. A late example of a Federal town house, it incorporates a segmental arch over the recessed entrance, narrow cornice moldings, and a lunette in the tympanum of the gable end.
