The core of Sykesville commercial district is Main Street north of the Patapsco River and the B&O railroad tracks, while its historic residential areas, with buildings dating from the late nineteenth century, are located on the surrounding hillsides. A two-block section of Main Street contains the most noteworthy commercial buildings, primarily built around the turn of the twentieth century. A group of two-story frame buildings at 7602–7608 Main share a cohesive storefront design with bay display windows, colored glass transoms, and a bracketed cornice between the first and second floors. At 7600 Main is the brick Colonial Revival former First National Bank (1907). The Warfield Building (1901; 7564 Main) is an orange brick Renaissance Revival design with monumental window bays.
