This building was built as an ordinary, or tavern, by innkeeper and town commissioner George Bartol. Inns catering to travelers were among the earliest buildings erected in Havre de Grace. This inn faces the Susquehanna River and includes a two-story, wraparound gallery and a low-hipped roof, reminiscent of French Colonial architecture. It is one of two buildings in Havre de Grace that reflect the early influence of French inhabitants.
