Hillsdale Grange Hall, Hillsdale County Fairgrounds

Grange Hall is the architectural pivot of the Hillsdale County Fairgrounds. The Hillsdale Fair has been held on these grounds on the banks of the St. Joseph River since 1860. Four trapezoidal cross gables with circular windows and elaborate carved bargeboards project from the Second Empire building, and a bracketed and braced cupola tops its mansard roof with a festive air. In this hall, county grange organizations display farm and kitchen products. The building is covered with board-and-batten siding as frequently used in the Gothic Revival domestic architecture popularized by Andrew Jackson Downing.
