Davidson House Bed-and-Breakfast (Wilbur F. and Margaretta Turner Davidson House)
Formerly the military road between Detroit and Fort Gratiot, Military Street between Chestnut and Jenkinson streets became the prominent promenade leading into downtown, and the residential enclave of both upper- and middle-class people. This richly textured Queen Anne house with an irregular cross-gable, tall chimneys, a one-story Ionic porch, and a hipped roof has been handsomely restored. The interior is resplendent with leaded and stained glass windows, fireplaces, and black oak, maple, butternut, cherry, and pine finishes. The house was built for Wilbur F. Davidson (1852–1913) and his wife, Margaretta Turner. Davidson was a dry goods merchant who became a local utilities magnate. A building plan association may have furnished plans for the house.
