Certainly the most dramatic site in Roaring Spring belongs to the three-story, blue limestone warehouse and office building of the Blank Book Company. Circular crenellated towers at the corners flank three recessed central bays, with a semicircular arched entrance. Daniel Mathias Bare began producing paper at this site in 1865. In 1886, the family founded the Blank Book Company, using their paper to make account books. With convenient rail service and abundant water, the factory thrived. All the factory buildings built between 1888 and 1914 survive. The later buildings are brick and range from three to five stories. Today, the company continues to manufacture ledgers, day books, memos, school composition books, and tablets, which are sold in the former Roaring Spring Planing Mill (1905) adjacent to the factory. The family also owns the Roaring Spring Premium Spring Water Company (founded 1980), which processes sixteen million gallons of water annually and ships it regionally. Its headquarters are in the same complex.
