Hazleton's cityscape is largely the creation of Philadelphia architects brought here by the independent coal operators who controlled the economy of the Eastern Middle Anthracite Field. An early example is this Gothic Revival church, funded by Pardee. When the congregation decided to reorient the longitudinal sanctuary, adding transepts and creating a “preaching space” with a pulpit on the west wall, Collins and Autenrieth were happy to return.
