Hazleton's skyline is dominated by this Classical Revival eleven-story tower, which proclaims the role of Hazleton's independent coal operators in shaping the metropolis of the Middle Field. Built to house the Markle family's banking and mining interests, it was later joined by a second tower, the Gothic-styled American Bank and Trust building (1925, Mowbray and Uffinger) across Wyoming Street.
