A distinguished group of landscape architects on Penn's faculty transformed Penn's campus from dreary leftover spaces to a handsome green. In place of the remnants of old roadways and an assortment of utilitarian paving materials, the new campus walks of granite curbs, brick, and bluestone (since replaced) and tree-shaded greens link the central academic buildings. This project began the transformation of the university to its present-day elevated status.
