The scale of the grand portico with its monumental columns is unique in the Shoreby Hill compound, where the preferred style is more modest Colonial Revival, emphasized by the Americana street names. Here, the fancy broken pediment over the main entrance and the two-story Ionic columns are flanked by lower Doric-columned porches (now enclosed) that help temper the scale differences between the projecting portico and the main block of the house, whose overall image evokes the nineteenth century rather than colonial times.
