Dr. William H. Hadnott Jr., one of the first African Americans to graduate from the University of Texas Medical Branch, began his general medical practice in Bay City in 1958 at a time when access to health care for African Americans, especially in small towns, was difficult. Chase designed Dr. Hadnott's clinic, a garden office building with paneled window and door assemblies set between brick panels and a patio court visually integrated with the interior but shielded from the street with a solar screen block wall. The pitched roof is not original.
