This regionalist courtyard complex replaced an earlier church in a traditionally Hispanic parish south of Leopard Street. Evoking historical influences, the nave is capped at its crossing with a dome inspired by San Antonio's San José Mission ( SA85). The catenary arch at the church's front elevation adds a subtle contemporary touch. This commission came early in Colley's career, not long after opening his office in Corpus Christi in 1938 following his work in Monterrey, Mexico, and the restoration of Espíritu Santo Mission in Goliad ( GB14). Bright murals by Monterrey-born, Art Institute of Chicago–trained artist Antonio García decorate the interior walls of the chancel.
