This is probably the oldest house still standing in Boerne, and an interesting example of a house that grew over the course of time. Phillip Jacob Theis was a blacksmith and wheel-wright, and, as could be expected from a German immigrant, used fachwerk construction, but his choice of materials was somewhat unusual. The first, north section of the house uses palisaded construction, crudely finished upright posts of cedar tied together horizontally with willow branches to serve as the frame for the clay infill, a portion of which is exposed on the interior. When the house was expanded to the south, bricks were used to fill a more conventional timber frame. The house is now a privately owned house museum.
