The Kowalik House is distinctive for its plan and combination of building materials. The two-room hall-and-parlor plan places the rooms end to end. The larger east room is of limestone masonry and the smaller west room built of lightweight studs clad in board-and-batten siding. The limestone partition wall between the two rooms carries a central chimney with fireplaces set back to back, serving both rooms. The light frame construction of the smaller room reflects a Polish tradition of using such a room as a stable space during the winter months.
