These small houses constructed mostly during the 1920s complement the larger residences a block away and are the work of Waco's most active and talented architects. The Mrs. J. George Hoehn House (1924) at 2715 Austin Avenue is attributed to Milton W. Scott. The Ephraim S. Fentress House (1926) at number 2724 is the work of Herman F. Cason. Birch D. Easterwood designed the John D. Roberts House (1929) at number 2800 and the firm of Baugh and Lovell completed the Louis O. Collie House (1924) at number 2828. Easterwood also designed houses for Abner P. McLendon (1927) and Ralph McLendon (1925) at 2912 and 2920 Austin Avenue, respectively. Many of these architects designed houses along the curvilinear streets to the north of Austin in a subdivision of Chateau Avenue, Castle Drive, and Crescent and Oriental roads.
