Dennis Mahoney House

This is one of the most lavish classical houses in the West End Historic District, which extends northwest from downtown for approximately nine blocks along W. Main Street. It was constructed by Dennis Mahoney, a contractor from Connecticut who was active in Waxahachie and Texas from the 1880s. He erected this house two years after securing the contract to build the main building at Trinity University (CW30), also designed by Hubbell and Greene. The facade is dominated by a two-story entrance portico anchored by paired Ionic columns supporting a pediment with a row of bold modillions. Prominent roof dormers flank the main pediment and echo the classical detailing.
