Richard Keating of SOM’s Houston office designed this fifty-story tower, which is remarkably similar to Williams Tower (formerly Transco Tower) of 1983, by Johnson/Burgee Architects in Houston, a Greek cross plan with stepped-back upper floors, a pyramidal roof, and continuous triangular bays running up the center of each side. This Postmodern simplification of the classic skyscraper form of the 1920s and 1930s has survived fashion changes better than some of its later baroque and mannered rivals. A public plaza, pavilion, and sculpture garden on Flora Street contribute to the street life of the Arts District. The Crow Collection of Asian Art is displayed in the Center.
