The initial courthouse at the southwest corner of the public square was replaced by a new larger building by Lang and Witchell in 1911 on a site one block to the west. This 1958 courthouse on the same site is set back from the corner behind a landscaped court. The low, L-shaped building has a deep porch with square brick piers and exposed rafters, more suburban ranch than a typical courthouse. Thin stone cornices and capitals are not enough to classicize the scheme by Dallas architect MacCammon. The rear (south) side rises to two stories, as the site slopes away from the courtyard toward Bonita Creek, the western boundary of the original town.
